Obituary of Donald Matthews

Donald Glen Matthews, 86, of Prince George passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his residence on Thursday, October 4, 2018. He is the son of the late Lee Roy and Eva Jones Matthews. Donald is preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret Matthews; brothers, Douglas, Burl, Gene, Wayne Matthews and a grandchild, Cayden. He is survived by his children, Tony Matthews, Marty Alsup (Tom), Janice Fuller, Dudley Matthews (Jo), Cindy Martin, Deborah Wheeler; grandchildren, Matthew (April) and Patrick Alsup, Tabitha, Elizabeth, James Walker (Crystal), Amanda Matthews, Candy Sirles, Kelly Evans; great grandchildren, Alexa, Savannah, Ava, Ethan, Ellie, Paisley, Joseph and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends on Monday October 8, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Ave in Hopewell. Donald's funeral ceremony will be on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Unity Baptist Church, 4951 Mount Sinai Rd. Prince George VA 23875. Final rest will be in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors to memorialize his 26 years of dedicated service in the U.S. Army. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Unity Baptist Church in Donald's memory.
