Obituary of Christine Burnley
Christine M. Burnley, 98, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Tyler's Retreat at Iron Bridge. She was born on December 9, 1916, in Edgecomb County, NC to the late John D. Moore and Lula W. Moore and was preceded in death by her husband, Richard M. Burnley, Sr. Christine was also preceded in death by her brothers, George W. Moore and J. Gordon Moore and her sisters, Annie L. Wyatt and Maggie M. Hicks. She is survived by her son, Richard M. "Dickie" Burnley, Jr. and his wife, Joyce; her daughter, Margaret Ann "Margee" Power and her husband, Jim; a brother, Joseph R. Moore and his wife, Jean; grandchildren, Jonathan Burnley, Aaron Burnley (Jaime), Katherine Christine Roach (Jason) and Tracy Brown (Melvin); Great grandchildren, Hunter Butterworth, Emily Christine Roach, Brooke Burnley, Haleigh Brown, Matthew Brown, Mathew Anicic and Jenna Witte (Collin); great-great grandchild, Sailor Dare Witte; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Burnley was a member of West End Presbyterian Church and was retired from West End Christian School where she was a kindergarten teacher for 22 years. The family will receive friends on Friday July 31, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Avenue, Hopewell. Her service will be at 10 A.M. on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at West End Presbyterian Church, 1600 Atlantic Street, Hopewell, VA. Interment will follow in Merchant's Hope Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to West End Christian School, 1600 Atlantic Street, Hopewell, VA 23860.
