Obituary of Elbert Richard Sampsell
Sampsell, Elbert Richard, 88, of Hopewell died Oct. 4, 2016, after an illness. He was predeceased by his first wife, Nora Lee Adcock Sampsell; daughter, Paula Shapiro; parents, Charles and Mary Sampsell and his siblings. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Pamela (David) Feibish of Richmond; granddaughter, Ashley (Zachary) Morris of Atlanta; grandson, Justin Shapiro of Shanghai, China and son-in-law, Andy Shapiro of Long Beach, N.Y. He is also survived by stepdaughters, Tammy Meyer, Sandy (Kevin) McCarthy; step-grandchildren, Tyler and Claire-Elizabeth Meyer and Raychel and Bryan McCarthy, and nephew/"son" Richard (Dottie) Sampsel of Knoxville, Tenn. A Navy veteran, Elbert had a long career as a maintenance supervisor at Allied Signal/Honeywell and was a longtime member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church, Hopewell. He was a Mason and Knights Templar. Elbert loved his family and working with his hands. A service will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th St., Hopewell, Thursday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m., with visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Merchants Hope.
