Obituary of Niki Karousos

Niki Karousos, 77, passed from this life on October 29th, 2016 at home and at peace surrounded by her children and closest family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerasimos (Jerry) Karousos in 1976 and God has now rejoined their marital crowns in eternity. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Aristotle Kourkoumelis, Harry Mellis, Petros Kourkoumelis and sister, Anthi Metaxa. Born in Kefalonia, Greece, Niki immigrated to the United States in 1967. Upon her husband's passing, Niki moved to Colonial Heights, VA where she lived for the past 40 years. She dedicated her life to the raising of her children and serving her beloved church, St. Elpis Greek Orthodox Church in Hopewell, VA. Rarely absent from services or an event, Niki was always happy to assist in any way and felt that she truly received everything she gave tenfold. She enjoyed gardening and was often one of the most recognized homes in her neighborhood. She traveled back to Greece often and created a lifetime of memories with her family and friends. Niki is survived by her son, Pete Karousos and his wife Shelley, her son, George Karousos and his wife Angela; grandchildren, Mariah Nicole Karousos, Jerry Matthew Karousos, Nikitas Gerasimos Karousos, Geramy George Karousos and her great grandchild Jayson Matthew Karousos. She is also survived by her brother, Fotios Melis; her sister, Fotini Kouri (Kefalonia, Greece) as well as brother in laws, sister in laws and a host of cousins, nephews, and nieces both here and in Greece. The family will receive family and friends at Memorial Funeral Home, 214 N 6th Avenue, Hopewell VA on Tuesday, November 1st from 6-8pm. A Trisagion prayer service will begin promptly at 7pm. A funeral service will be held at the St. Elpis Greek Orthodox Church, 107 Memorial Avenue, Hopewell VA 23860 on Wednesday November 2, 2016 at 11am. Interment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, South Prince George, VA 23805. Flowers are welcome; however, donations can also be made to the St. Elpis Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund.
