Obituary of Alonza Lee Jackson

Alonza Lee Jackson, Sr., 97, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, May 23, 2017. During his last days he was surrounded by family full of love and laughter. Alonza was born November 26, 1919 in Tin City, N.C. He was one of 13 children born to Alonzo and Minnie Jackson. Alonza was fortunate enough to fall in love twice having been preceded in death by his first wife, Claris Jackson. He is also preceded in death by a son, Al Jackson, Jr. Alonza is survived by his current wife, Marie Gray Jackson; his sons, Warren Jackson (Adell), Keith Jackson (Teresa), Clarence Jackson (Joyce); daughter, Judy Hunter (Donald); 16 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; step children, Wendy Gray and JR Gray, 5 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. From the war front of WWII Pacific Conflict to sitting in the shade of Prince George County his 97 years of life were full of adventure, love, loss and laughter. Hard work was instilled in Alonza at an early age. He owned his own gas station, worked for DuPont at Hanks and Jackson Excavation. He owned Prince Paving, Inc. where he retired in 1982. He was also a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge #1472 and a member of the Moose Legion. Alonza not only worked hard to provide for his family, but he also built four homes for them to live. Alonza was well known and respected in the community for his honesty and integrity and will be remembered fondly for his love of family, gardening, hunting, fishing and Twinkies with coffee. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Ave in Hopewell. His funeral ceremony will be on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Final rest will conclude at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens in North Prince George.
