I was sad to hear of Mr. Vick's passing. He worked with my father, who managed Presquile NWR in the early 1970s. Although we moved away when I was 5, I have never forgotten the kindness of the man who let me hang around in the maintenance shed and the barn, who never seemed to mind, even though I surely got in his way now and then. May his trip to heaven be a quick one.

Luther was my Uncle whom I loved very much, I will miss him. Mom and I spent a lot of time with him at the hospital. We talked about the old times from when I was a toddler up until the present. I have good memories of Uncle Jr which will be with me always. I am thankful I was able to help him physically and spiritually in his last days. He knew he was ill and could not be cured, he wanted to go home to die, but God took him home where he is no longer suffering and he is at peace rejoicing with all his loved ones in the presence of the Lord. We had several prayers before he went home to Heaven on his last day on this earth. He was at peace. Dena, Dennis, Michael, Bryan, Kevin and Sarah, your Dad loved each of you, keep all your happy memories of your Dad in your heart. He will continue to watch over each of you as he always has. Uncle Jr you will be missed by everyone that knew you and loved you. You were respected and you leave your legacy.

I worked alongside Luther during Kids' Fishing Day Event's . He will be greatly missed. He was always very pleasant and very generous. We appreciated all the hard work he did for us at these special events. I enjoyed working and laughing with him and our Hatchery Team here at Harrison Lake National Fish Hatchery will miss him. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family.

I had the privilege to work with Luther during his last years with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. A big part of Luther's job was to break in new refuge managers and I was the last one he broke in. He taught me a lot about his beloved Presquile and James River national wildlife refuges and was always able to work in some life lessons as well. Luther had an uncanny ability to be both a "Fed," (for many years of his long career carrying a badge and gun to enforce refuge regulations) and a trusted member of the local community. Always short-staffed, Luther often cajoled one of his boys or friends to volunteer to get a particular job done. He had many friends in the Fish and wildlife Service. We will miss him.

Sadly, Burrowsville has lost another Mayor. Luther was one of the "Old Guard" ,along with those who passed before him; Royer, Willie Jr., Thurman and Ted. Luther was always there when someone needed him; offering all that he had to help them. He will be sorely missed in the community by all who knew him. He was truly a selfless person giving his all to those in need. We should all strive to be the kind of person that Luther was. His kind deeds will never be forgotten. God has truly blessed us all with having the opportunity to have known him. May God bless his family with the knowledge that he was dearly loved and will be greatly missed in Burrowsville.

I extend my condolence and deepest sympathy to Luther's family. I have known Luther since 1980 when I started to work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Luther always impressed me as being a kind, loving, and giving man, always quick with a smile and laugh. We could always depend on him to bring the Christmas goose to our office Christmas gatherings; to be there to help with Kid's Fishing Day at Harrison Lake National Fish Hatchery; to tracking down Atlantic sturgeon which had been hit by a ship; and to be willing to help with any equipment and facilities maintenance project when asked. Luther left a good impression on me and I will truly miss him.

Uncle Junior, I know your in heaven now. You've past from this life into the the arms of Jesus.Your Cabin is in the corner of glory. The table is ready and you've joined your loved ones for supper. Tell them them we love them and O how happy we will be when we get over yonder. And join you all for a feast prepared for King Jesus and the ones that have gone on before us all.You have a new body. Jesus gave you a smile that lite up this place where we are. And if I or anyone else has memories my your smile and love of family keep us strong until we meet again. My prayer for your children will continue that peace will enter and take residence in their hearts. And that you spirit will come and visit with them from time to time with a hug of comfort. We may be sad right now but please ask our Heavenly Father to encamp around us all for awhile longer and carry us through the difficult days ahead.

Thoughts and prayers with the family. Luther was a great man. Always told me he loved me like one of his own kids. From the day I moved next to him he was there for me anytime I needed him. Always kept an eye out for me over here. Now he just has a better view. If only this world had more men in it like him. Miss you Luther and love you more. Save me a house next door.
